About Robert "Bob" John

Robert John, N9FHH (Previously WB0FVL) was a lifetime member of the Detroit Lakes Amater Radio Club.  By profession Mr. John was a repairman for Motorola communications equipment and in 1975, he assembled a private, 2-meter repeater.  Not long after, as Robert was getting ready to move to Florida with his family, he worked with other local hams to form the Detroit Lakes Amateur Radio Club (DLARC).  He granted ownership and care of the repeater to the the club and it was relocated to Detroit Mountain.  That repeater stayed in service for over 30 years in service of the Detroit Lakes and surrounding communities.

Robert “Bob” Arthur John, age 74, of Rice Lake, WI died Thursday, August 30, 2018 at his home.

He was born on February 3, 1944 in Peoria, IL to Robert and Alta (Smith) John.  Bob graduated from High School in George, IA and then entered the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged.  Bob went to DeVry University and graduated with a degree in Electronics.  He worked for Motorola for many years as a service technician and also owned and operated a taxi company.  Bob loved driving his moped, was a ham radio operator operator (N9FHH), enjoyed going to coffee and garage sales and he could fix anything.
